Kent LongA Bay Area native, Kent has over 30 years of management and developer experience in the software industry. An expert in operating systems and computer-controlled devices, Kent has worked for a variety of successful Silicon Valley companies at all stages of growth.Kent Joined Wind River Systems as part of the original VxWorks real-time operating system development team, when it was a small start-up in Emeryville, and helped grow the company into a major publicly traded software provider. After becoming the first engineer to be promoted to manager, Kent became Director of OS Development, leading all aspects of operating system design and support across many different hardware architectures. During this time, VxWorks established itself as an industry standard, generating over $100M/year in revenue. For the last dozen years, Kent has focused exclusively on embedded sensing software. As Director of Software Development for start-up LV Sensors, he designed and implemented the complete runtime software architecture for a MEMS-based tire pressure monitoring system,. Later, at Atmel, Kent developed a software API and development tools allowing customers to easily add sensors to their embedded designs, created a self-contained microcontroller-based sensor hub module, and developed software for touch screen controllers. Kent's experience in embedded systems has been driven by a fascination with how computers interact with the physical world, and the "magic" when that line is crossed. Kent holds a BA from UC Berkeley and an MBA from St. Mary's College of California. |
